Ultrasonic Flow Meter Equipment Definition and Specifications

Ultrasonic flow meter, have you ever heard that? It can help you to know the flow of gas perfectly. The working process is by sending an ultrasonic transmission wave that goes through the pipes.

Each transmitters and receivers there can be found on both sides of the pipes and usually the distance has been set. The accuracy is always on point here because of the technology used.

Who Found this Tool?

The first ultrasonic flow meter was first found by a Japanese man in 1959. To measure the blood flow, the developer applies the Doppler concept here. At the beginning of 1960, this measuring equipment was used for industrial instruments too.

Many companies in this industry loves to use this kind of flow meter. You must know the details first because every types may come with its own details and specs.

The Working Principle of Flow Meter

The ultrasound wave method is used here to help measuring the flow. There are two kinds of ultrasonic flow methods here where two of them are known as transit-time and Doppler Effect.

Measurements of directions gotten by using these two methods are not the same. The transit time for example; sound waves are delivered into a diagonal part to come together with the flow.

Meanwhile, the Doppler method has a different working principle. In this case, sound waves are then applied along that flow path, and of course the frequency of the return signal must be counted too.

About Transducer Flow Meter

The transducer is widely known to count the flow rate. This thing could be mounted at an angle to the side of the pipe or parallel. Ultrasonic flow meters commonly have 2 different transmitters that send sound.

Furthermore, two receivers are also applied there to get the needed sounds. These transmitters deliver short bursts of pulses or ultrasonic signals which are sent through a fluid stream.

The desired transmitter here will send sound waves along the flow direction. Meanwhile, other transmitters deliver these sound waves in the opposite direction.

The signer is reached from the first transmitter and it raises because the fluid velocity increases as well. After that, a signal that comes from the 2nd transmitter is reduced because it has the opposite direction of the flow.

The Types of Ultrasonic Flow Meter

We have informed before that this ultrasonic flow meter has two unique types. Those are known as transit-time and Doppler. Below is the further explanation you should note about these types:

1.     Transit-Time

Transit-time uses a pair of sensors that are opposing each other. Usually, people will choose it to know the different times between the sound pulses inside this tool.

The movement of gas or fluid brings sound waves, and that is why; the Sound pulses sent downstream can go quicker than sound pulses transmitted upstream

2.     Doppler

Doppler effect is used here and people call it as a frequency shift. This shift is made by a wave created by the object that moves. A real example is a horn that is sounded so loud when it is near us.

Why You Have to Choose This Equipment

There are some reasons why you should choose this ultrasonic flow meter. First is about its easy installation, especially for the transit-time type. You may still need straight pipes, but this process will not stop the system.

Besides that, the maintenance cost is also affordable. It doesn’t has any electrodes, so you don’t have to replace them someday. however, make sure that you get the best product from a trusted supplier.
